Rule 1 – The Crosse
This rule will be shortened to
include only basic information on the crosse, while the more
complicated measurements, specifications and diagrams will be
included in Rule 22, Manufacturers Specifications. More
detailed information is still being developed and will be
presented at the Board meeting for review and discussion.
Rule 3 – The Playing Area
In Sec. A, changed the
requirement for the minimum amount of space behind goal from
12m/13yds. to 9m/10yds. but maintained the stipulation that
this space must be maintained.
This change will allow teams
playing on 120 yd. fields to set their goals 100 yards apart
and still maintain legal space behind. It will also help to
alleviate many of the problems with multiple lines when
different sports are sharing the same space.
In Sec. B, slight wording change
for clarification purposes only – clearly distinguishable as
the restraining line, for example, the only line on the
field, or marked in a different color, or marked
with X’s.
In Sec. C, the reference to 7m (8
yds) is no longer correct as a result of the change to Sec. A.
This should now read – and end guidelines shall be placed….but
never closer than 5m (5.6 yds) to the goal line extended.
Diagram 1, pg. 9 – this will be
replaced by Diagram 10 and the written directions for marking
the arc and fan that are now on page 57 and 58.
Diagram 3, Measurements – numbers
will be adjusted because of changes in A; placement of visible
guidelines behind goal will be corrected; note will be added
about the diagram not being drawn to scale.
A new Sec. H will be added to
define the team bench area – The team bench area is defined
as the area from the end of a team’s substitution area to the
team’s restraining line, and behind the level of the scorer’s
table extended.
Old Sec. H (now J) will have a
slight wording change - …and that the field is consistent
with the Rules.
Sec. K to be reworded to read –
Coaches must remain within their own coaching area, that
is, the area on the bench/table side of the field extending
from their team substitution area to their end line, and
behind the level of the scorer’s table extended. Violation of
this rule is a misconduct foul (Rule 18-E-3).
Old Sec. J (now L) will have a
slight wording change – Non-playing team personnel must
remain in their team bench area. Violation of this rule
is a misconduct foul.
Old Sec. I will now be Sec. M,
old Sec. L will now be I, AR3-1 will be re-worded.
Rule 6 – Captains and/or
Coaches
Add a new Sec. I to read -
……to verbally certify to the umpires that any eye protection
worn meets the ASTM standards for their level of play. (See
Rule 7-E and Rule 20-A-2)
Rule 7 – Uniform/Equipment
In Sec. B, changed the word “may”
to “must” any time it appears in order to strengthen the
intent of the rule, for example, …This padding must not
excessively increase…. Also changed sentence to read -
Body padding must not exceed the thickness of legal
goalkeeping gloves.
In Sec. C.1, the Note will be
changed to read – Beginning with the 2007 season, numbers
on uniform shirts must be 6 inches tall on the front and 8
inches tall on the back, and must be centered at the
chest level.
Add new Sec. E to read – It is
highly recommended for 2004 and required beginning on January
1, 2005, that all field players must properly wear eye
protection that meets ASTM standards for women’s lacrosse at
their appropriate level of play. NFHS affiliated schools must
wear the above eye protection in 2004. (See Rule 6-I)
Old Sec. E, now Sec. F – remove
the reference to eye guards.
Old Sec. H, now Sec. I – change
A-G to A-H. Also, add the term eye protection – If violation
of jewelry, eye protection, or mouth guard is
discovered….
Rule 9 – Substitution
In Sec. A, change A-G to A-H.
In Sec. B, Substitution
Procedure, remove all reference to cards/batons as it will no
longer be necessary to provide them or use them when
substituting.
Sec. B.1 will be revised with the
following sentence added – A substitute must not go onto
the field until the player she is replacing has entered her
team substitution area.
Rule 18 – Fouls
In Sec. A. 4 – added specific
examples to provide clarification and to emphasize what types
of behavior with the stick will not be tolerated. Will add –
for example, a. use the crosse with force against an
opponent’s body; b. directly poke or wave the crosse near an
opponent’s face; c. make a
sweeping check from behind that contacts the opponent’s body;
d. any other action with the crosse which in the umpire’s
opinion amounts to dangerous or intimidating play.
In Sec. B. 2 – added the word
hold - A player must not check/tackle or hold an
opponent’s crosse when her crosse is not in contact with the
ball. A held crosse will now be called a minor foul as long as
it is not in contact with the ball when held.

“on or” – A player must not on the center draw, step on or
into the center circle or on or over the

above – any part of her crosse on or in the goal

In Sec. D.a, b – same change as
above – 7 players on or over; 8 players on or

show the on or wording adjustment.
In Sec. E.2 – change
participating to playing, and the word bench to team bench
area as a result of changes in Rule 3.
In Sec. E.3 will now read – A
coach must remain in their coaching area. (See Rule 3-K)
