All Women’s/ Girls Lacrosse Officials should refer to the US
Lacrosse Women’s Umpire Manual available from the
uslacrosse.org web site.
The most up to date manual includes points of emphasis for
lacrosse officials for the current year.
Major
emphasis this year is mandatory eye protection at the High
School and Youth Levels.
HOW TO USE THE US LACROSSE WOMEN’S UMPIRES MANUAL
The manual is "REQUIRED READING" for all umpires! Part One of
the manual contains information and policy regarding the
levels of umpiring, procedures, and responsibilities for
obtaining, maintaining, and upgrading a rating, and resource
persons available to the umpire at all levels.
In addition, this section clearly states the umpire's "Code of
Ethical Conduct". Parts Two, Three, Four, and Five deal with
the practical aspects of the rules and umpiring. These
sections have been written so that the umpire can better
understand the intent and application of the rules. This
material is meant to clarify and supplement the rule book and
should be read in conjunction with it. In addition, a variety
of situations are illustrated with diagrams to give the umpire
a clearer visual picture of the topic being discussed.
More specifically, Part Two presents the technical and
procedural aspects of umpiring the game.
Part Three is an extension of Part Two and addresses in
greater depth some of the major and minor fouls which occur
during play. Part Three also offers general suggestions for
umpires, discusses techniques and positioning, and gives
specifics for umpiring the three person system.
Part Four discusses how to administer penalties for fouls when
they occur at various places on the field (i.e. midfield or
within the critical scoring area including goal circle fouls).
In addition, specific discussion of and procedures for
penalizing slow whistle situations are presented.
Part Five discusses the specifics of the Restraining Line
rule.
Part Six is written for the more experienced umpire who may be
involved in rating umpire candidates.
The manual ends with Part Seven, the Appendix section.
Included in this section is the Code of Ethical Conduct and
the Ethical Behavior Grievance Form, District, National, and
International Umpire application forms, the Service
Opportunity application form, forms that can be copied and
used to rate or re-rate umpires, the Written Assessment
Checklist, information on padding goal supports, and a listing
of the differences between the U.S. rules and international
rules.
